Even before he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois in 2005, Father Daren Zehnle was dedicated to helping young people learn about religious vocations. That’s why he feels so at home in his newest dual role as episcopal master of ceremonies for the Springfield diocese, working with Bishop Thomas John Paprocki, and as the associate director for the Office for Vocations.

Hundreds stopped in Hawaii on their way to World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney to refuel on sun, surf and spiritual and cultural refreshment. And the Diocese of Honolulu laid out the lauhala mat for many of them.

A group of 13 pilgrims from St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Effingham will join a group of 12 pilgrims from St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Casey and St. Mary Parish in Marshall to travel to Sydney, Australia, this summer to attend the XXIII World Youth Day celebration with Pope Benedict XVI.
